- Matthew, the protagonist of the story, begins with saying how he became an orphan at the age of 4. Matthew stays at Roselviat orphanage until he becomes 18. He goes through many challenges and difficulties during his years at Roselviat and also learns more about the world and what’s going on around him. his understanding increases as he meets new friends and learns from others.
