A Guiding Star Become a Patron 1848: Cassy lives a complicated life as the daughter of an enslaved woman and her master. As a child, her mother told hopeful stories of the guiding star and how Cassy and her brother could someday follow it north to freedom. However, now that Cassy is older and her mother is dead, she wonders if she could ever really escape from the Virginia plantation where she’s enslaved by her own family. The guiding star still shines, though, and Cassy has a choice to make.
