If chubby ordinary guy Paul is loosely based on me, Skipper Paul Martin, it stands to reason Matthew would be based on someone real too. The real answer is kinda yes, kinda no. While watching Matthew McConaughey on a talk show I couldn't help think he was effortlessly charming and likable, so the character started there, then I told Chris to go more 'boy band' heartthrob.
