Fun fact: my Chinese teacher back in high school would always tell us to marry for money and not for love. (In a sarcastic way, obviously, he was a public school teacher, after all) To this day I still remember that (among many of his other phrases) and it seemed fitting to have Mrs. Chen share a similar attitude.
