Mortimer Ill is a lich - a powerful sorcerer who has sacrificed his soul for immortality and power unimaginable. However as the centuries passed, he sort of forgot why he became a lich in the first place. He doesn't care whatsoever about eternal undeath or anything. He in fact does not recommend it. Ill is an entirely benign being who frankly just wants to be left alone. Despite this, the rest of the realm sadly will not leave him be.
