In a society where all citizens become ill or disabled at a high rate, some choose a paradise: going gold. All imperfections and bad health are removed. They become perfect identical beings with no memory of their past lives. "Bangs", a woman who lost her husband and daughter to this horrible process is stone-cold until she meets go-lucky kid "Squiggle" who lost her family. Both are changed forever as they work to uncover the horrible conspiracy of going gold and maybe they can save the victims.
