Cantrell is a rapacious juvenile delinquent living in his patient Nana's house. Graceanne pines for Cantrell, and her brother Hoppy is sober (or tries). Simon is gay but figuring it out. Twist Fusion (formerly Mildred Gottlieb) is a sober punk and Graceanne's best friend. They all survive, if nothing else.
