After writing the outline for this story, this scene was the first one I actually fleshed out the dialogue for. I think it marks the turning point of these characters really talking to one another, instead of the masks they were wearing up to this point. But still lots of weird stuff is to come :) The poem referenced is "The Shephearde's Calendar", chapter September by Edmund Spenser.
