Max going back to school is challenging because, while everyone knows he is a boy now, there are some of his classmates who still call him by his original name and use "she" pronouns. It is like building a new Lego castle, but others are always trying to knock down your walls and insert old bricks. This makes it hard for him to focus on his studies and feel comfortable, as he's also dealing with everyday challenges of adaptation.
