Chad Lee is the result of a scientific experiment to cure radiation poisoning while he was in the womb, resulting in not only complete immunity to all forms of radiation, but the ability to absorb and hold radiation to fuel superpowers, when his mother passes during an alien invasion, she leaves behind a handmade costume and a note, encouraging him to help others with the gifts he's been given.
