Monsters have been appearing in the world for centuries. In response, the people created academies where children and young adults are trained in the magical and martial arts to defend against these monsters. Surrounded by those with wondrous talents and abilities, Maggie Oswald must prove herself worthy to ascend to the Ranks of Defenders, as an ordinary teenaged human girl.
