When is a break not a break? During my second year at university I fractured a bone in my foot by jumping an embarrassingly short height. I ended up in a cast but, probably due to my own foolish disregard, ended up having to have surgery to try to coax it to heal. There are a few moments that always stuck with me from this time so this is the first of three or four parts recalling that winter.
