While on the brink of death by an incurable plague that's devastated humanity, Aster serendipitously wins a lottery for a cutting-edge procedure to transfer the soul of any living person into a new, superpowered body. The catch is that he and the other winners agree to dedicate their new lives to saving the planet from the mess that the Altlanders—an outer-dimensional force—created when they tore a hole in reality to harvest a seemingly useless resource for reasons unknown to anyone but them.
