Ren is a city "Cleaner" who wipes memories into crystal Echo Drives. He has no past of his own. A journalist named Lyra holds him at gunpoint with a red drive containing his lost mind. Fleeing corporate assassins called Silencers into the slums, they decrypt the data. Ren plugs it in and sees a warm memory of them together. Lyra reveals the ultimate twist: she isn’t a stranger, she is his wife.
