Powers are useful....... If you can control them. You see this is no boring royals with powers story blah blah blah. They ripped out the pages of the ordinary book and replaced them with different ones. Pages without a storybook ending, without unpredictable next pages. Do they make a better story? Don't ask me. I really don't know.
