"You don't have to be mad to work here... but it helps!" Nobody is quite sure where this bit of office humour came from. It's the name of a book from 1982 and cursory Googling has sighted it as early as the 1960s. Personally, I don't think anyone needs to be mad - it's a feature of the process, not a bug.
