One response I get when I criticise systems like schooling and economics is a spirited defence of parents, educators, government, etc.. "It's not their fault they didn't see disruptive changes coming, like the reduced emphasis on grades! You can't be angry at them!" But the fact that these figures of authority couldn't make these decisions afforded by their leadership doesn't reassure me.
