Challenges start to make a lot more sense when you stop looking at them through the lens of improvement, and start looking at them based on the rationale people have when inflicting challenges on others. Whether you succeed or fail is ultimately immaterial. People put other people through challenges for the heck of it - although the threat of irreparable consequences always helps.
