When people mention "lifelong learning" to you what they really mean is your life. That way there's always something they can embarrass you for your ignorance over. Conversely, someone older always has access to the claim that their seniority grants them the privilege of choosing to stop. Don't bother asking them how the two statements don't contradict, though - that's the point.
