Anything than scare a possum is a hell of a thing... and the truth is a hell of a thing. I really do think this is at the root of most conspiracy thinking: no matter how outlandish a theory or all-encompassing worldview may seem to those outside of it, it's appealing to its adherents precisely because it offers a simple, actionable explanation. Too bad the real world doesn't work that way at all.
