After the death of her mother, Merrolyn, a 13-year-old girl, moves into her older brother's house. There, she must cope with her complex grief and the resentment she holds against her brother, Isake. In the midst of this turmoil, Merrolyn finds a passage to a fantasy world, where she meets Murrufu. Believing it to be an opportunity to escape her problems, Merrolyn dives headfirst into this world, but little by little, she uncovers the terrible secrets of this new place.
