TOPthis is, unfortunately, very true. the absence of lgbt+ people and poc in the curriculum not only further alienates straight cis white people from them, but also can be damaging to young minorities as well. imagine being taught in school that you didnt exist in history, and imagine how much more comfortable you’d feel in your identity if minorities like you were shown and talked about in school. sorry for the long rant lmao

TOPYou're totally right. I didn't even know what being LGBTQ was until the sixth grade, because it was never acknowledged as a thing. And the only reason I learned about it was because I had gay friends. Not educating people on their history and culture will only lead to future consequences. This also applies to POC. We can't just educate everyone on the famous old white dudes. So many women and POC's weren't acknowledged because of who they were, but we can acknowledge them now.
