Among the 1.4 million species of the Network, group minds are strikingly common. Some theorize this is because the process of leaving a solar system is so difficult that only an entire species, acting as one, is capable of the feat. This is good for the galaxy as a whole; undesirable species, made of selfish individuals who care nothing for each other, are naturally confined to their homeworlds.
