2021 WEBTOON CANVAS Awards FAQ
GENERAL INFORMATION
What are the CANVAS Awards?
Now in its second year, the CANVAS Awards is an end-of-year celebration to highlight our creators as we close out the year!
WEBTOON readers will be able to nominate their favorite CANVAS series (October 20 – 31, 2021 PDT), vote for their favorites (December 6 – 12, 2021 PDT), and winners are announced on January 3, 2022 PDT.
How many categories are there?
There are 11 categories.
Why are some genres combined?
Because the total number of series under these genres is significantly smaller compared to our other categories, we have decided to combine those genres that fall under a similar umbrella!
What are the prizes for the CANVAS Awards 2021?
There will be a total of 13 prize recipients. Each category will have 1 prize recipient except for the “Hidden Gems” category, which will have 3.
For all the categories except the Hidden Gems Category, the 10 creators will receive $5,000 USD plus an offer for an opportunity to sell merchandise that is exclusively designed by our in-house creative team using series assets made by the creator.
The merchandise will be sold for a limited time on the official WEBTOON Merch website --> https://shopwebtoon.com/ and will receive marketing support from the WEBTOON CANVAS team.
The 3 creators selected within the Hidden Gems category will receive one XP-PEN merch code redeemable for the Artist Pro 16 tablet.

NOMINATIONS
What are the nomination guidelines for the #CANVASAwards2021?
For the first 10 categories, the nomination guidelines are as follows:
You can only nominate one series in each category. Please keep in mind that you are unable to change your nominations once you submit them.
If you want to nominate a series outside of the 20 nominees provided, you can select ‘other’ and write-in your choice. Please keep in mind that any series you choose to nominate must adhere to WEBTOON content guidelines to be counted toward the results. If a creator or creative team has multiple series nominated via write-in, only the series with the highest number of nominations will proceed to the user voting stage.
Creators that have a concluded, ongoing, and/or upcoming WEBTOON ORIGINALS series (including WEBTOON-produced series) are not eligible for nomination.
Creators CANNOT nominate themselves. If you nominate yourself, you will automatically be disqualified from the awards.
How long is the nomination period?
The nomination period starts October 20th at 6PM and ends October 31st at 6PM PDT.
What are the nomination guidelines for the CANVAS Hidden Gem Category of the CANVAS Awards?
The “Hidden Gem” category will have its own set of nomination guidelines. The initial nominees selected have been reviewed by WEBTOON’s CANVAS Team and deemed to be on par in art and story with the top series on WEBTOON CANVAS based on the following criteria:
Hidden Gems Criteria:
Art Quality: 35% value
Narrative: 35% value
Readability: 30% value
Nomination guidelines:
You can nominate series that have less than 10k subscribers before October 18th KST.
You can only nominate one series under this category. Please keep in mind that you are unable to change your nominations once you submit them.

Can I edit my nominations if I already submitted them?
Unfortunately, you can not edit your nominations after submitting the form.
Can I nominate more than once in each category?
No, you can only nominate in each category ONCE.
Can I nominate a series second genre for a category?
No, you can only nominate a series' main/primary genre.
If I am a CANVAS Creator, can I nominate myself?
No. Creators can NOT nominate themselves. If you nominate yourself, you will automatically be disqualified from the awards.
As a CANVAS Creator, can I encourage my readers to nominate me if they want to?
Yes, If you’d like to encourage your readers to nominate your series, that is fine!
How will I know if I was nominated?
You will receive an email from the CANVAS team. We will also be announcing on our socials, when nomination emails have been sent out to creators.

Who from the nominees will make it to the voting period?
The top 8 nominated series for ‘Hidden Gems’ and the top 4 nominated series for all other categories.
Who can vote?
Any individual that has a WEBTOON account!
When is the voting period?
December 6th, 2021 6PM PST – December 12th, 2021 6PM PST.
Where can I vote?
We will provide the link to the voting page once the voting period begins.
How are the winners selected?
The series with the most votes for our first 10 categories, and the 3 series with the most votes for our ‘Hidden Gems’ category, will be the winners, subject to the Official Rules. Winners will be announced on January 3rd, 2022.
