The joke here is, high octane fuel can withstand higher pressures and temperatures before self igniting, so therefore, engines fed with high octane (assuming the ecu can detect it) can use more aggressive ignition timing and air fuel ratios to make more power! (This is why the L880K got hyper all of a sudden). In Japan, the pump colour's are Green=regular, Yellow=high octane, and Red= Diesel
