Part of the human brain's predictive power comes from the need to accurately predict how other humans will react to one's actions in social situations. We play out in our heads "if I say this, hopefully so and so does or says that in return." The NPCs in a Dreamband game like this are simply the characters we create in our heads when we imagine social situations.
