You can't really tell, but Ellie's skin tone is canonically a middle brown inspired from my own years spent in Central America. It took me several months to realize I'd written a story about an almost-Hispanic girl adjusting to a new life in the U.S. The parallels weren't intentional, but I'll use them when they make sense. Like here, where Ellie's antennae get culturally appropriated.
