SO basically in a ton of creation stories from different cultures, gods will at some point flood the earth and destroy stuff when they get mad. The character here claiming to be a "god" is Plot Convenience. It's power is plot convenience and it can't do anything that is inconvenient to the plot really, so it can't flood the void unless it would be convenient to the plot (which it is not)
