There are people in this world who meddle with forces they do not fully understand. They become obsessed with the eldritch, staring into the abyss until it eventually stares back. In doing so, they make themselves vulnerable to cosmic entities that reach out, seize control of their bodies and destroy their souls in the process. Lord X saw an opportunity and seized it... but is quickly overpowered by the many burdens of existing as a human.
