I didn't really know about Dia de Muertos before moving to Arizona; after my BFF died suddenly, my own culture had me in a very depressive state of mourning, and I wasn't doing well. The Dia de Muertos afterwards I started doing the sugar skull makeup to help process the grief, as well as the grief I was still holding onto from my miscarriage nearly 2 decades ago now. It's helped a lot.
