"Fun fact: a rat king is a natural, rare phenomenon, wherein a nest of rats get tangled up together and are unable to separate, due to their tails knotting together with a glue-like mixture of dirt, excrement, hair, or sap, until they resemble the spokes of a wheel. Rat kings were seen as a terrible omen in medieval times, and some people believed a rat king could become one entity, with all the rats working as a hivemind to think as one. Initially regarded as a hoax and manmade object by modern science, rat kings eventually became accepted fact when modern natural ones were documented in the wild, in different rodent species. The largest preserved rat king contains 32 rats and is housed in a museum in Germany.
