Shortly before landing my cartoon in the independent Duluth, MN newspaper, I submitted a tiny batch of my cartoons to them. Although Candace 'n' Company is set in a generic city, the pier I drew in this comic was loosely based on the Canal Park pier outside of the Duluth, MN/Superior, WI harbor at the head of Lake Superior, and is the farthest inland of all U.S. harbors.
