Let's be honest - who wants to know they locked themselves out of the Good Ending after fifty hours of gameplay, because of some arbitrary trigger that wasn't explicit because of "indie game design direction"? There's already enough uncertainty away from the keyboard or directional pad without having to deal with it in limited recreation time.
