"Only you can make yourself a victim" is a phrase overused to the point of contrition. Yes, you can take steps to reduce the impact and consequences of being victimised, but the use of the word "only" is often used to insinuate that nobody else needs to get involved or penalised. "Two hands to clap" is a common accompanying phrase used here, but only one of them gets punished.
