One thing I've noticed about people who scream at other people to try new things is that they tend to do so from a position of relative safety. "Learn everything! Pad your resume! Be a T-shape employee!" The real world is not nearly so forgiving. If you're already headed for disaster, spreading your resources thin is very unlikely to make a significant change besides burning you out even harder.
