If you needed another reason why "Be the better person" has been reduced to a meaningless statement, consider what happens when you do it with toxic bullies and the like. They're somehow incapable of changing their behaviour while you're constantly asked to have faith in their better nature, despite everyone knowing full well that "they can't help it". It's basically asking you to be a sucker.
