Cynics don't have a particularly pleasant reputation. People think cynicism is easy because it means you don't put any effort into risking yourself, exposing yourself to damage or having your standards raised. In a sense, they're not wrong, but they're not exactly right either. Anyone who thinks cynicism is easy doesn't know what it's like to be disappointed so often that you actively avoid it.
