Metaphors of plants, flowers and growth are a common trope when it comes to talking about comfort zones - or specifically, tossing someone out of their comfort zone. What rarely gets talked about is that greenhouses and flowerpots have a reason for existing. Plants have to be handled delicately and in the right environment to flourish - but that doesn't make for good character-building narrative.
