Convincing someone that they need to find a balance is usually a pretty significant tactical win. It makes searching for a compromise someone else's responsibility while you'll be able to go ahead with what you were doing completely unimpeded, on the grounds that you can't just drop everything just to accommodate someone else. Another reason why "be the better person" is such a scam.
