A blithe attempt at courtesy aside, acknowledgement of other perspectives on its own doesn't make a lot of sense if you're going to go ahead and basically ignore it afterwards. (And to be fair, I'm also guilty of this pretty often, thanks to an inclination to treat conversation as competition.)
