"If you can't beat them, join them" is a strange bit of advice to give to harassment victims. It assumes that by agreement and laughing along, the aggressors will eventually get bored of humiliating a willing target. Generally, I suspect most advocates of this advice haven't really undergone constant, consistent harassment to begin with.
