One thing I've never liked about motivational materials is the overt focus on individual power. It all sounds good until you realise that the power and "potential you have doesn't exist in a vacuum. There are limits, responsibilities, and politics that go along with that power. Saying that "you have the power" is a subtle way of saying "the status quo isn't changing and failure is your fault".
