When you think about how adults turn up their noses at what kids do for fun, it's staggering that they'd ask that kids "read for fun". If adults could help it, kids wouldn't do anything for fun; they'd do something that can make it onto a graduation slip or resume somewhere. As it turns out, even when kids do read, it doesn't make the adults want to actually engage them. It's all performative.
