Belief is cheap, but you'd be surprised at how many people - particularly those of an older generation - think that simply believing in your ability to do something entitles them to do anything they want. This can include anything from a strict intolerance for failure to active sabotage in the name of character building. After all, they believe in you - which means failure is not an option.
