I've previously mentioned how people saying "you can always leave" usually do so under the expectation of hidden consequences and fine print. In this take, it's true there are "always" options - but that's assuming people will simply let you go and not get in the way. e.g. nosy parkers giving "well-meaning advice", authoritarians who like having a punching bag, and endless paperwork bureaucrats.
