"Adapting" works similarly to the rules of "changing" - it's something everyone wants out of everyone else while secretly hoping they won't need to do anything different. It gets worse when you need to adapt to multiple things by people wielding different objectives. Adapting becomes your moral responsibility, not an opportunity to negotiate compromise.
