The problem with radical change, even when necessary, is that it's always invasive and painful - particularly because the status quo never goes down with dignity. Even a tree that's rotten to the core will end up causing so much damage when it falls, so odds are people around you would much rather prop it up forever. The lesson is thus not to not be rotten, but to be an even bigger tree.
